What Do Employees Want?
It's a startling statistic. In a recent survey, only 3 percent of employees said they were satisfied with their current job. Half of the respondents said they would consider changing careers to entirely different types of work; almost one-forth are planning to make changes in the next year. Fewer than one in five employees said they would never consider a career change.
What are people looking for? Nearly 30 percent want to be able to make money and don't believe their current job offers that opportunity. Coming in second was to increase their personal happiness. Nearly 25 percent of the people wanting a career change believed they would be happier in another job. The third and forth reasons for changing careers were greater job satisfaction (7%) and better working conditions (4 %).
Do people who change careers obtain the things they are looking for? Almost three quarters of job changers do make more money. In order to get those increases in pay, though, most had to complete additional education or training.
The results related to the other reasons for change are less encouraging. Respondents were nearly evenly divided about whether they were happier with their new jobs. Most reported the new job was more challenging and satisfying but believed they spent too many hours working and had only limited control over the hours they worked. One of the greatest values is that the individuals who changed jobs believed they were in a better position to withstand changes in the job market and to take advantage of other opportunities that might become available.

The number of people not satisfied with their jobs does not suprise me. I can believe these statistics because there are very few people who wake up in the morning and say "Yay! Time to go to work!". Sometimes the most satisfying jobs are the ones that have the least pay. This is probably because of stress. If you are in a job that causes a lot of stress and you don't like it, then there is no motivation to succeed.
Most people I know choose their jobs to make more money, not because it is something that actually interests them. I think that the money factor stops being interesting after a while and most people get into that position and do not feel motivated to make a change. If you start off in something that you like- even if you do not make much money- then you can progress from there. The longer you stay with it, the more knowledge you get in that field and you can start to make more money WHILE enjoying what you do.

It does not suprise me that many people are not happy with their job. Most people go to work so they can make the money to live and usually only that. And they rather enjoy the things outside work more than what's happening there. People who really care about their work life more are very work oriented more than others and rather spend more time doing that.
People are most likely are usually not happy with their job because they never had an experience with the job before and when they finally start, it was not all the glamour they thought it was. People with a childhood dream job are possibly be more likely to be more happier with there job than those are just pick something random in high school and follow it.

it doesnt suprise me the number of people who complain about changing there jobs. Theres alot of jobs that simply dont pay much. Or personal problems with other co-workers. Most of the time it could be because of managers because i also have problems with managers.
It shows that alot of people choose there jobs simply because they need the money. The economy is rough right now and its hard to get a job so anything you the people of america can take they take. If people had more time and less economical problems i could picture them doing jobs they would enjoy, jobs they would take the time of taking extra education for.

I am not surprised that the number of people that are dissatisfied with thier jobs is high becasue alot of people look fir jobs that are not hard but give enough money for them to be happy for the coming years. Then they eventually want more money so they can go vacationing or just "go out." So this is why i am not surprised about the number of people that are dissatisfied with their jobs. If i had a low job i would want to get a higher onw for the money also, who doesnt want some extra pocket change once in a while.
i think that information about job satisfaction shows the people just want money and do not care until the end about how they will feel about the job. I think that people choose careers that they will be dissatisfied with later because later in life they want to make a "goal" to get another better job.

It doesn't really surprise me that a lot of workers aren't satisfied with their jobs. I have both my parents that would honestly be happier if they had different jobs. A lot of people work only to obtain money so they can be fed and they can have a house to shelter them. People would take jobs that they can so they can support their family but for the meantime, if that's the only job they can get, they have to settle with it.
The job satisfaction really says a lot about how people choose careers that they need momentarily to have money. People choose these careers that don't even satisfy them because they need money to pay the bills, to pay the food, and to pay for the house. Having a job where you make money is way better than having no job and making no money at all.

I dont think that people are very happy with their jobs and it doesn't surprise me at all, because i'm one of them . Sometimes at work, it almost feels like they dont care about you, just getting the job done . They don't understand that we are human and that we have personal problems that stop us from obtaining what needs to get the job done . I think if they cared enough to help with issues, then the employees would care more .
One of the reasons that i chose my career is because i like to help people feel amazing . When i can say that i did so-and-so's hair, i feel amazing about it . Other people that dont feel satisfied with their job is because they only thought about one thing : the money . Sometimes, money isnt everything . You can pay me to do the job of a millionaire, but i doubt ill be happy . I think this is where people fail .

I am not surprised by the fact that many employees are unsatisfied with their current jobs. Many Amercains wake up to yet another typical day at work. Their routines at work are usually the same and frankly they get bored of it. They don't pick their jobs according to what they like, but how much they get paid. The job they may be interested in might have low pay and if you're trying to provide for a family then you're going to have to put your needs behind you.
I think pay is something that affects the job you have/want to get. The more money, the better for you but then again that job may be something you don't like. You want to get paid well enough to be at a job you do not like going to every day. Plus it depends on the work place and the people at the job. If the work place is nice and your co workers are friendly, then those reasons may be pushing you even more to get that job.

I am not surprised by the number of people who are unhappy with their jobs. As the economy goes down, people will be wanting or needing more money to buy the things they want/need, and in turn, will ask for a raise. If they do not get this raise or cannot earn more money at their job, they will most likely be unhappy in thinking that they can find more money in a job someplace else. Sometimes, as time wears on, we become bored with the same thing every day and want something new, which would explain why 25% of the people think they would be happier in another job. Happiness, satisfaction, and health are all important factors to look into when looking for a job. Even when making tons of money, one may not be enjoying their job or the job may make them feel as if they aren't reaching their full potential. There are many reasons for someone to be unhappy with the job they currently have, so I am not surprised with these statistics.
Satisfaction from a job plays a big role in someone's happiness with that job. Again, a person can be making lots of money to buy everything they could ever want, but money does not buy happiness. A lot of times, the amount on the paycheck is what brings people to jobs they will later dislike. Sometimes, the job may become old or won't challenge the person, making every day at work a bore. I know someone who had a job they were really good at and made lots of money, but they quit. They traded their triple digit salary for a job as a teacher, because it was in this job that they felt fulfilled. So lots of factors come into play when first choosing a job, but this may change a person's view of their position later if they're not satisfied with it.
It's not surprising how many people hate the line of work that they're in. This is because I know that people don't always choose what they're interested in as career. People like this are usually not happy when they have to get up in the morning to work 9-5 that they hate.
It's all about the money these days. People go further and further to some capital. So it's not what I'd like to do for money, it's what I have to do to get as much money as I can get. I understand the love for the mighty doller, so I could never judge the hustle for the green, but I don't know if it's worth it torture yourself for movey. I'd rather do what I like to do, and do it the best I can until I'm a future millionair.

It all depends on the wages of the job your working at. How much you get paid and how much work you do is a big impact on how people view their jobs.It's not surprising that certain number of people aren't happy or satisfied with their job /careers .
Also it depends if you really love your career nomatter how much it pays , your stick to it and your be perfectly satisfied with it since your be comfortable with it as the time goes by.
Most people though , choose their jobs base on how much it pays and maybe even what type of health insurance it offers - if it offers any.
People work , to make a living , to survive . Sometime they pick a job they hate just to make easy money , sometime they pick a job they like that doesn't pay that well. It's all on the employee ,the job , the pay and the work.

No, it doesn't surprise me, because now the economy is going very bad and the boss of the businesses always want experienced workers. Also, the employees that want to work, has to have a back ground and skills of the job they want to do.
I think what happens is that when the people apply for jobs, they don't specifically say their interests and sometimes lies about it. So, they should think what they are more interested in and then decide their future career. Then, they don't have to choose another career all over again.
The number of people that are not sarisfied with their jobs does not surprise me. It does not surprise me because there are a lot of people that are not satisfied with their career.
What the information says to me about job satisfaction about their career is that they do not choice their career carefully. They probably find their career issatisfying because they dont choice it carefully or didnt put much effort into getting a career that they want.

This is a little surprising to me, because people are given over 8 years to figure out what they want to do in life. It's too late to be switching careers while you're already in one. It is understandable because before they going to work they didn't know what to expect each day. Unless they are absolutely positive they know what career they want to switch to, they should not just make the change, because they don't know how much better their next job could really be.
People choose there careers, focusing on currency. Not what they are actually interested in doing for the rest of their lives. If you are not interested in the career you are going into, its going to be harder for you to get by. Those who choose careers that they find dissatisfying are usually just going into certain fields to better their families lives. In some cases, this may be a good thing, but it is best to go into a field you are interested in.

The number of people who report that they are dissatisfied with their jobs does not supprise me. The reason is because alot of people are usually not sure of what they want their career to be. Some people usually have an idea of what they want to do but once they get the job, they feel like it's not suitable for them. Some people just pursue a career because of what it pays. But once they get it, they feel like it's too much work or it's boring, so they tend to look for another one.
The information provided shows that people choose their careers poorly. They don't pay close attention to the facts about the career they believe they want. I believe that people choose careers that they later find dissatisfying because they choose the careers in hurry. If a person is considering a career, they should learn everything they can about it, they pursue the career.

This doesnt really surprise me because I already knew that a lot of people were dissatisfied with their jobs because a lot of them feel that they arent getting paid enough.Even with the pay that they are getting now they think they can do a lot better and actually have something to live off. They feel like they are doing a lot of work and have nothing to show for it.
I believe people about their choices in careers because there was obviously something that drew them into that job and that was turned off while they were working.They choose dissatisfying jobs because they just want that job for the money and to get paid. Then they realize that that wasn't the job for them in the end.

The number of people disatisfied with there job doesn't surprise me at all. Most people these days want to have a job that they enjoy. At the same time they want to make a substantial amount of money. The few people that are satisfied with their job are probably sports athletes and artists. I'm one of those people who didn't or doesn't like their job.
According to the information on job satisfaction people usually don't make good first choices when it comes to careers. The reason for that might be that they don't know what to expect when they choose their first career. Another thing might be that the salary wasn't exactly what they expected. Since people don' really have much prior knowledge on their choice they end not liking it. The people who have some expirience in their career choice probably chose that career cause they liked it.
