Marketing One Blog Entry # 14 (25 points)
Chuck E. Cheese's Goes Bilingual to Target Hispanics
Chuck E. Cheese's, the fun-and-games pizza chain targeted to kids, has begun zeroing in on a growing market segment it felt is was missing with mainstream promotions. Now with bilingual commercials in English and Spanish, the Texas-based company hopes to reach the Hispanic children who make p at least 16 % of the U.S. youth market. The ads began runing on the Nickelodeon cable channel during shows that are based on Latino characters and culture.
In one of the commercials, some Hispanic kids are showing their parents how to play the games at Chuck E. Cheese's restaurant. Their generous assessment of the old folks' skills. "No esta mal novatos" - "Not bad for beginners".
Chuck E. Cheese's operates nearly 400 restaurants across the country. They are known for their kid-friendly games and entertainment and have become a birthday party tradition in many families. The chain has been working more Spanish-language elements into its promotions and operations for several years. The next step is more Spanish on its web-site. Hispanics are the largest and fastest-growing minority group in the United States. Much of the U.S. population is located in the Southwest.
In a two paragraph response (5 sentences for each paragraph), please answer the following questions. In paragraph # 1, discuss why it is important for Chuck E. Cheese's to promote its restaurants to Hispanic children and families. In paragraph # 2, discuss whether you think non-Spanish speaking kids would be confused or turned off by bilingual ads.

I think it is important for Chuck E. Cheese's because it shows everyone that our country is going to inevitably have to appeal to both the English speaking citizens and the Spansish speaking ones. Chuck E. Cheese's is jumping ahead of the game by becoming one of the first companies in the children's focus to promote their company by appealing to the growing target segment.
I think that there are so many companies in our country starting to use this approach that kids will not grow more confused by it. The Chuck E. Cheese's brand is known by a large part of our country and, kids especially, know their brand just by seeing it. Also, kids don't often read the ads, they mainly just see pictures so some of them may not even notice.

It is important for Chuck E. Cheese's to have ads in Spanish so they can keep up with the changing times. The spanish-speaking population in America continues to grow every year. By having ads in spanish, they are attracting customers that would not otherwise hear about it. This is a very smart move because they are increasing their market width.
Some people will find these ads offensive because it is a very touchy topic. Many people question why Americans should have to "press 1 for english" on the phone and these people will probably be turned off by these ads. It might also cause little children to think of Chuck E. Cheese's as a place for hispanics only too.
-"David Cheug" because Shannon spelled her name wrong.
I think that it' s good is making a better atempt to reach out to the hispanic market and try to broaden their demographic of customers. It's not good for a store to have any sort of racial division here in America these days.
And I don't think that it would confuse non-Spanish comercial viewers all that much, but it would better for them not to view it because the comericials wouldn't be made for anybody else besides Spanish cunsumers. If they want to make a comercial that doesn't exclude any type of race, they should make a commercial that includes at least a couple kinds of people from different ethnic backgrounds and races.

It is not important for Chuck E. Cheese to promote in spanish because if it's in the United States, they should already be speaking or can understand english. Also it's un-appealing to other ethnics because they just flat out don't understand. If they do target Hispanics only they must also target other ethnics too because to some, doing these type of promotions may seem offensive.
Kids who do not speak spanish may be confused of this commercial and don't know what to do about it. And because they do not understand they might not pay attention to the commercial and Chuck E. Cheese may have lost some business. If the commercial is in the United States if should be straight english because the biggest majority are englishing-speaking people.

I think that it is very inportant for Chuck E Cheese to promote its restaurant to hispanics because there are a growing number of hispanic kids in the US. Also business wise they could make alot more money because of new customers. Tradition wise, the kids might like this, then in the future they would take their kids to the restaurant and say that they had there birthdays here. Also if the kids like Chuck E Cheese they will want to come back and maybe bring some friends and there is more revenue.
In a good way I think that the non-spanish speaking kids might want to larn spanish to understand this. But in a bad sense they might not watch the commercial and change to a different channel. Also they might think that the channel is a spanish channel so they would also be turned off.

It is important for Chuck E Cheese to promote its restaurants to Hispanics children and families so that they can get more business.
I dont think that they would be confused because they would see all other kids playing and would probably get how to play. Also because they have seen on T.V.

Chuck E. Cheese bring all types of variety people/childrens together no matter what their races are.
All types of families bring their kids to Chuck E.Cheese for fun and entertainment.
It's good that Chuck E.Cheese has reached out to their costumers in both English and Spanish , since they are the most well-spoken languages in the United States. I don't really think the language spoken in a Chuck E. Cheese commercial affects the kids watching it since all they see is pretty pictures and lots of games , they will always tell their parents "hey , i want to go there" , most kids already know the name and place of a Chuck E. Cheese near their home.

It is important for Chuck E Cheese to promote it's resturant t hispanic children and families because the different cultures are rapidly growing in Amercia. Immigrants are coming from all over to get a shot at living in 'the land of the free'. Many spanish people do not know english so if they do come to Chuck E Cheese they would get lost. If there was employees there that spoke the lanuage then the hispanic families would feel more welcome and they would come more often. IF the hispanic families do come more often then Chuck E Chesse would be making a lot of bussiness and a good profit.
However, the new spanish speaking ads could also be a turn off to some people. I'm not saying that people are racist but then again there is people who do not understand spanish nor would they never want to understand it. The ads may seem like that Chuck E Cheese is for hispanic families only and Chuck E Cheese could be losing a lot of bussiness. But I have seen some Chuck E Chesses( when i was younger) that would have the english translation then the spanish translation at the bottom. So both the non speaking spanish and the hispanics would fit right into Chuck E Chesse with no problem.

I think its a pretty smart idea for them to do that. It would do them good financialy since the hispanic community is large. With ads in spanish there will be in increase in people who go to chuky cheese.
I think it wont make a differnce. I think the non speaking spanish kids will find it interesting to go. Kids are curious and when they see things in a differnt language but at a place they know they find it amazing. For instance alot of kdis who dont speak spanish watch dora, a show that has alot of spanish in it.

The reasons that Chuck E. Cheese needs to promote to the hispanic culture is simple. They are looking at data for taget markets and realizing what race is growing rapidly. Hispanics are the the race that keeps growing. Knowing this they want to attract customers that have never heard or experience this type of entertainment.
In my own opion I think that the kids would be turned of or comfused. I think it would make them more accepcted knowing that they this enterainment is not excluding them. For many the fear of being different and being in a different society is hard. Seeing that this place is accecpting them and who they are.
It is important for Chuck E. Cheese's to promote their restaurant to Hispanic children and families to reach out to more of their target market. Chuck E. Cheese's is mainly focused on kids' games and therefore, mainly targets children. By leaving out the Hispanic children, Chuck E. Cheese's is missing a big part of their target market. This is especially true since Hispanics are now "the largest and fastest-growing minority group in the U.S."
I believe that by adding these new commercials, many non-Spanish speaking children will be very confused. They will see the familiar Chuck E. Cheese logo they know and love, but not understand anything in the commercial. This may frustrate and confuse many children. As for the parents, many may feel turned off by Chuck E. Cheese's new advertisements. Others may feel this is just another marketing tactic to bring in more customers and ignore it.
I think it's important for Chuck E. Cheese to promote more on other racial backgrounds because they are looking for a wider variety of demographics. They are showing that the restaurant is not only kid-friendly but also, adult-friendly towards different races. For this promotion, they are more focusing on Hispanics. Since Hispanic is the largest minority group in USA, it's best choice to target them for their restaurants and their games.
Some of non-Spanish speaking kids would probably not mind that the commercial ad is in Spanish but I think some would be too confuse that they would take that remote and switch to another channel. It may affect a lot of non-Spanish speaking people and their feelings towards the company.

It is good for Chuck E. Cheese's to promote to hispanics because it is not very expensive. It is a good place to go for the entire family. There are not many spanish places, besides restuarants, for spanish kids to go for their birthday parties. It creates a fun night for family and friends of all ages. The hispanic population is huge and is still growing.
I think this is a good idea, because now it will attract the parents of many spanish children. These parents do not want to spend all their money for one little birthday party. Thus, more hispanics will respond to the advertisements when looking for a fun night out with the family and friends. It is a good target because they are the easiest to appeal to.

I think its important for Chuck E. Cheese, beause many hispanic families and kids don't know english or its hard for them to explain it to their parents. Hispanic people love to celebrate birthdays and other occasions in restaurants. So, they will come more often if there are promotions.
I think some non-spanish people would, because they wouldn't even know what its saying or they would be curious to know and think that the people don't want non-spanish people to go there. So, there might be less non-spanish people then spanish speakers.
I think it is good that they are trying to target as many children as they can . They say in a couple of years, many of the kids will become interracial and they want to make sure they get as many families as they can . This is probrably one of the first companies to target all kinds of races .
I dont think that the kids will be turned off by it . I think in school they know how it is to have classmates that speak different languages other than english . It will be something to grow upon while the years pass by .

I think it is important for Chuch E. Cheese's to promote their buisness to Hispanic families because they are kids and can talk their parents into having birthday parties there just like the other minorities can. They are also showing diversity, which is always good for buisness. They are ahead of a lot of buisnesses because they are putting themselves out there.
I dont think other children will be turned off of the Chuck E. Cheese's buisness and im sure it won't confuse them.Plus, kids dont really read the adds the just see the commercials and notice the fun that the people in the commercials are having and they want that.

It is important for Chuck E. Cheese to promote it's resturant to hispanic families because different cultures are constantly increasing in the United States of Amercia. Immigrants are coming from all over the world to get a nice living in this land of oppurtunities. Many spanish people don't know english so if they do come to Chuck E Cheese, they'd be confused and lost. If there were employees there that spoke the lanuage, then the hispanic families would feel more comfortable and they would come more often. IF the hispanic families come more often then Chuck E Chesse would be making a lot of bussiness and a good profit.
