Marketing One Blog Entry # 8 (25 points)

Cyber Marketing...TV and Internet Economics

When Toyota, a television sponsor of Desperate Housewives, found out the show woud be available to on-line viewers, it could have pulled its support.  Instead, Toyota signed on to sponsor the on-line version as well.

Toyota views the Internet as a way to complement the older technology of television.  The Internet gives viewers more choices about when they can view their favorite shows.  Toyota benefits from the increased exposure both on television and the Internet.

In a two paragraph response, answer the following questions.  In paragraph # 1, what are some additional options for on-line viewers of traditional television shows?  Do you think the Internet will totally replace television?  Why or why not?  In paragraph # 2, discuss your thoughts about on-line advertising.  Is it worth it for companies to spend money on it?  Why or why not?

For people who have busy lives, if they have the option to watch their tv shows on the computer then they have more options. They can stop and start their shows at their own convenience. This is helpful for people who have many things on their plate. They can take the shows with them on the laptop to watch during long plane rides or whenever is available for them. They can multitask while watching the show, I know that when I do homework I do better with background noise so I put a tv show on the computer while I do my homework. I think the computerized tv shows have a very good chance of replacing tv because of it's convenience.

Online advertising could greatly benefit from this new fad. They have more opportunities to have the viewers see their ad because it could be displayed while the tv show is running instead of just during commercials. It is definitely an option that companies should consider spending their money on.

For them to have access to all t.v shows with no commercials and no interupptions. But on-line tv watchers basically have all the options that have to deal with watching tv on-line.

It is worth the money to advetise on-line. People will always see it and it is cheaper than creating a commercial for it. It can also have a link to go into a bigger and better website where it gives more information than a commercial can.

Since television shows come on at weird or conflicting times, being able to watch a TV show online lets you choose when you want to watch it. You can take breaks from watching it and pick up right where you left off. Internet will not totally replace television at this moment because internet streaming is not quite as fast as watching it on TV. TV's live events and news would be too slow and laggy if they were streamed through the internet.

Online advertising works very well and is definitely worth the investment. On youtube, they force you to watch these 30 second ads that you cannot skip, meaning that millions of people are viewing your product. Online advertising might even be more profitable than renting television time slots too.

They can download the shows of itunes, they can see them on free online sites, they have youtube and alot of other good sites. I dont think the internet will replace television because not everyone in this country owns a computer or knows how to use one.It could play a major role in televising things though. I think online advertising is somewhat of a good idea. me personaly i think its a bad idea because i never pay attention to the ads and i always close out the pop ups. I think it could be worth the money they spend, yet i think they shouldnt you so much money just for advertising over the internet when there advertisments get ignored.

This is a very smart move by Toyota, because many people use both the internet and televisions for ways of watching shows. There are people that don't have DVR so the internet allows them to fast forward or rewind the show allowing them to see what they miss. The internet will not totally replace television because as there may be a lot of people who use the intenet, there are also a lot that don't. Internet is more of a back up to television. If a person misses an episode of a show, they can later refer back to it on the internet.

The intenet is a great source of finding information that you do not know. In this case, a show can be viewed on the internet. On-line advertising is definately necessary for companies. These advertisements can really grab the online viewers attention. They get pulled in and intend to learn more about the products. This is why on-line advertisements are worth spending money on.

An additional option for online viewers could be that they can show a sneak peek to future episodes if they watch a current episode throught the internet. That way, the sponsors can be advertised more and it gets more exposure. I don't think that internet is ever going to replace television, simply because through internet, there's more fuss and interruptions and televisions only have the three-minute commercials.

Most of the time, advertisements through the internet are really really annoying but there are also times when that advertisement will catch the eye of a future customer. I think it is worth it for companies to spend money on advertisements on websites because not everyone is annoyed with the pop-ups and simply click on it and buy the product.

Some additional options for online viewers of traditional television shows is that they can control which show they want to watch and at what time they want to see it. This includes play/pause controls, rewind, fastforward, skip, and many others. Even though these controls attract many viewers to watch their shows online, I don't think that it is enough to totally replace television. Some reasons is that almost everybody owns a television set, computers can be expensive, plus internet services cost money.

I think that online advertising is a very effective tool. People all over the world constantly use the Internet, which gives great exposure for a company. This is a good way for companies to spend their money, mainly because it puts your business' name out there for people to see and even consider. -Jair Pasaye Lopez

Some additional options for online viewers is that you do not have to turn on your tv and computer when you want to watch tv and go online at the same time. You can watch videos online and still go online with out using electricity. I think that the internet will not replace the tv because alot of people still watch tv and not go on the internet while they are watching. Also the some people do not have very fast internet and when you watch a video you need a substantial amount of speed to watch it.

I think that online advertising is very annoying when you are watching a video because you have to stop every 10 min to see an advertisement. But for the companies that make the advertisements it is good for them. I think that it is not worth it for companies to waste their money on advertisements, when i watch tv online i do not pay attention to the advertisements i am just waiting until it finishes.

Online viewers can pause, forward, and rewind to their favorite parts of the show. They are also free to choose when and where they view their favorite show online. Online viewers may be able to choose the quality of their video as well. Depending on the entertainment system the viewers have at home, they can still watch their favorite online shows on the television.

Advertisements and sponsors can still profit online as they do on television or in newspapers or magazines. They can even reach out to potential customers by advertising on sites related to their service or product. If someone who is browsing the internet comes across an eye-catching ad, they will be likely to check out the company behind it.

When you advertise on popular daily websites, you are for sure to get noticied. When you watch shows online, you are not allowed to skip the commiercals. You must watch the commerical then your show will be played again. The good thing about watching shows online is that there is usually only one commerical instead of mutiple ones that you see on television. And if you do not have Tivo or DVR then you cannot skip commercials but now almost everyone has Tivo. Also, advertisments are all around the screen. Some advertisements are also interactive activities. For example, they may ask you to click somewhere for the ad to move so you have to pay attention to the advertisment.

Online advertisements are for the better. They are more noticed and they dont annoy people with an abdudance amount of commercials. THe down part for the person watching the show online is they cannot skip the advertisment at all but you can skip it on t.v.

I think advertising and putting up your show on the internet would be something that they should let happen more often because it would be better for peoiple that cant stay home and watch it on . this is a way to expand what they have . technology has grown and their are many phones that will let you watch youtube .

They are able to pause the show that they are watching. Not only are they able to pause the show but they are allowed to watched previous shows. The most imporatnt thing is that they an was the show from any place as long as they have an internet connection. Even with the advantages that viewers online are given I do not believe that internet will replace t.v. The quality of your t.v. will be better than the internet along witht he sound.

Some additional options for online viewers would be the fact that they have control, and it makes it good for the buisnesses. I dont think internet will ever replace t.v. because they are so different in ways but computers/internet is just easier and better for people on the go.
I think online advertising is a good way for buisnesses to spend their money the only thing in is that they have to advertise on popular websites or it will be a waste of money, but because pretty much evreyone uses the internet its a really good idea.

Some additional options for
on-line viewers is that they could be able to pause it & play it when they want too. T.V. shows on the computer might replace television sometime in the furure because
its better than on T.V. because people can pause it & play it when they want. Also, because they would be able to watch it when they can and are able to instead of just waiting.

Online advertising is a good thing because people see the advertisements when they are checking their e-mails or when they are on some other website.
It is worth the money because a lot of people get on the internet everyday & see the advertisements & the companies that are advertising.

Part 2:
i think that its is benefital for companies to advirtise online. Many time you can set up your page for free to help promote the products. For those who do spend money on the advirtisements, I think that is does help them. It depends ont he way you advirtise though online.

I think people who don't have much time to watch t.v. should have the opportunity to watch it on computer. Then, they can have more options. The people can use their own time to watch their best shows.Even on planes, when going on long journeys.

I think on-line advertisment is ok because everyone uses the internet and sees pop-ups of things they would like.

I think it's a good idea to put whole television shows on youtube because a lot of people who want to watch popular programs can't because their days can get busy or they're working. This is a good way for a lot of people to watch missed shows. An On-the-Go kind of program would also be good. You could put in on cell phones and charge a small fee. The mobile age is something every business should invest in.

Online you can see "never before scene" of a certain show that plays on the Television. Or if you missed a certain epidosde you can watch it online. In my point of view i think the internet is replacing the television.
Lately i haven't had time to watch tv , since i'm always web-surfin since there's always a computer near me. But what i hate are the online advertisements.I rather watch commercials on the televisions than reading the pop-adds online.

Some additional options for on-line viewers of traditional television shows are that they can rewind the shows online. They can also choose to listen to the audio of the movie through headphones/earphones. I don't think the internet will totally replace television because some people appreciate the originallity of the television.
Online advertising is a great marketing stratergy because of various reasons. Some people don't have plenty of time to watch television and catch the commercials. Also the web alows more time for the advertisements to be aired. It's worth it for companies to spend money on it because they gain alot of money through the internet.
