Global Marketing Blog Entry # 2 (25 points)

Please respond to the following in a 5 sentence paragraph:

In 1987, Herbet Hainer went to work for Adidas, the number two sportswear company in the world, second only to Nike.  Hainer started as a sales director for Adidas products before becoming CEO in 2001.  He now oversees Addidas's global operations and is often credited as the driving force behind Adidas's comeback in the sporting goods market.

Hariner is a marketing professional who realizes that markets differ around the world.  For example, in Europe, customers buy fewer than two pairs of sports shoes per year while Americans buy between six and seven paris each yar.  In search of other growing markets, Adidas and Hainer have turned their attention to China.  Adidas has 1500 stores in China and it opens another 40 stores each month.  Under Hainer's leadership, Adidas was selecteed as the official outfitter of the National Olympic Committee in China in 2008.

Dispite Adidas's marketing successes, Hainer still faces challenges in the marketplace, such as the conterfieting problem in China.  Chinese authorities confiscate between 4 million and 6 million pieces of conterfiet apparel each year.  Hainer continues to help Adidas retain its market leadership by developing new product technologies and using innovative marketing stategies.  In 2005, Adidas and Hainer were working on a deal to purchase a major competitor, Reeebok International to gain an even bigger share of the international market.

Explain why Hainer needs to have a strong understanding of the different markets where Adidas sells.

Hainer needs to have a strong understanding of the different markets where Adidas sells for obvious reasons. Mostly he needs to know what kind of market it is to sell his product. He sells things in the area that people want to buy. If the demographic of the area was mostly teenagers, you wouldn't sell baby clothes. Things like demographics, competition, and interests of a certain area are very important when trying to implement yourself in the marketplace of that area.

In order for hainer to be successful in the global marketing perspective, he needs to have a wid understanding for the market. He needs to know how each market is run and the regulations that apply there. Also how the poeple tend to shop is it by brand or by price. Hainer needs to have a reletivly good history of the market as well and he could study trends over time. With this knowledge nothing should hold him back in being suesfull in the different marketf around the world.

Hainer needs to have a strong understanding of the different markets where Adidas sells because if he doesnt, he could potentially lose a lot of business for the company. Purchasing Reebock may be a good investment since that will make his company more global. It's kind of like when at&t merged with cingular. You get a lot more customers and more customers = more money. He needs to be smart about advertising because if he puts $7 million into promoting his product in Europe as opposed to in the United States, that would be a waste of money.

Its important for Hariner to know how the different markets are where Adidas sell because he needs to know how to advertise in each one. How he advertises in the US would clearly be different for how he markets in Europe because of how many shoes per year each comapny buys. In knowing these small differences from each market he will be able to successful advertise his Adidas products better.

He needs to learn which countries seem to like the product the most and which countries do not really want or need the product. For instance it mentioned that in England people do not buy adidas as much as the people in America. When he went to China he should have already known about the counterfiet problem and known how to deal with it. If he had he probably would not have had as many challenges. He should also think about other ways to catch the public's eye so people would rather buy the real thing instead of a counterfiet product.

Hainer needs to have a strong understanding of the different markets, because if he doesn't then other companies can sell much more products in those markets. It's very important to know the weaknesses of other companies in order to be successful, and sell more products. They have to have really good advertisements, and sponsor big sports events, etc. So I think, if he wants to be successful in China, then he has to come up with something to prevent counterfeiting, and know more about other brands.

He needs to have a great understanding of the different markets because not every customer has the product in mind. Since Adidas is the #2 sportswear company in the world, it means that their product prices would exceed that of a relatively unknown company. If Hariner knows about this then he and Adidas will come up with a campaign that would make consumers purchase more and possibly stop buying counterfeited shoes.

In order to prevent a international market disaster. Research is the most important. Knowing the demographics and the needs and wants of the customers. Rather than competing and competing by establishing more stores. Hainer should make his decisions more surtegically.

Hainer needs a strong understandung of the different market place where adidas is sold because it will help him sell more products. If he knows the correct way to approach and avertise to his customers then they will buy his product. He wouldn't have to worry about people conterfiting his things. Its is inmportant to market to the coorect places, so that many people will buy his product. It should be in the right location.

He needs to have a strong understanding because the more you understand what people want the easier selling is. A key aspect of selling is knowing what the customers want and where. The demographic is important because if you don't know the demographic then you can't give the customer what they want.

Hainer has to have a good understanding because if he does not then Adidas will not be succesful in that specific country. Since he is the leader he has to have the best understanding of demographics and other things. He needs to know what kind of market the country has,so he can adjust Adidas's products to consumers needs. He needs to know where to set up the stores also. If he sets up the stores in a small towns with not much athletics going on the products will not sell well if at all. He should also try to learn the way people buy. If they spend alot or alittle or what they tend to buy most. Hainer also needs to know what his compettion is like.

If Hariner wants to be a good marketing professional, he needs to have a strong understanding of the different markets where Adidas sells. If he knows there are couterfiet problems in China, then he should try to think and resolve ways from this happening. He also needs to know which market does what, so he can understand who he's selling to. It maybe be kids, teens, women, or men- so he should find out.

Hariner needs to know who Adidas is competing with. He needs to understand what the other sportswear companies are doing so that he can do something bigger and better to get the buyers attention. He needs to understand what kind of products the buyers are interested in so that he can know what to do to give them what they need. In a place like China there is a lot of competition and Hainer should know what the buyers need so that he can draw the attention to Adidas instead of all the other stores or companies. Hainer's job is difficult because he has to know all everything about his company and the other companies as well.

I think that Hainer needs to develop a better understanding of the competitors that addidas. He needs to know the market he is placing this company in to, so that there is no surprise shock. His advertisement is really good cause there are many people all over the world who want to buy the product he has put out. A variety of products for a company to have is important to give your consumer a choice, because if you dont puta choice outthere they can just as easily go to another company and fing another varietyof items.

It's important that Hainer have a strong understanding of global marketing, but it isn't nescisary. If the product is good enough, it should sell itself. If there is the need for it, or want, it will sell. SO him having a good understanding is good, important even, but it didn't make the sell.

Hainer needs to really understand the needs and wants of different countries around the world to sell his product. Like the article says, customers in Europe only buy between one to two pairs of shoes a year while Americans buy between sex to seven pairs. He needs to develop different marketing strategies to reach out to other countries so he can be successful. By finding the wants of other countries he can capitalize on that to make his product suitable so other people around the world will be interested in it. Hainer should have an understanding of different markets so Adidas can sell.

I think Hainer needs to understand about how Adidas manages the things in the marketplace. He should gather information about different stores and prepar for what he has to do.He can do a promotion on the product and sell it in stores.

Hainer would have to know where to target his market. If Adidas was going to be placed in a area where many people can not afford to buy things, then obviously there would only be a negative affect for the market. If it were placed in a area where many people do go shopping, then the company will gain more and more profit. He needs to understand demographics as well as strategies to aim toward consumers. If not then the market will not be successful and will only go to a downfall.

It is important that Herbet Hainer learns the global understanding and skills of marketing. In global marketing, Hainer should know what to sell and where to sell it. A product will not sell it self unless you have any kind of propaganda about it. The attraction cause people to buy the product. So in my believe i feel Hainer should have an understanding of selling good strategically.
